Bring your existing catalogue into Shopify

Install Shopify's Store Migration app

This is Shopify's own tool and it is free. In your Shopify admin go to Apps, search for Store Migration, and install it.

Run the import and check the result

The app brings across your products and customers. When it finishes, open Products in Shopify and check three things: prices, inventory quantities and images. Those are the three that most often come through wrong.

Your products land in your own Shopify catalogue. Nothing has been sent to Ocanova yet — the next step is what does that.

From Squarespace

Squarespace is the one platform on this list that Shopify's app can't connect to directly. This one goes through a file instead: a bit more work, just as reliable.

Export your products from Squarespace

In Squarespace, open the Products & Services panel, then Products. Click Export all for everything, or select some products and click Export selected. You get a .csv file.

Reshape the file to Shopify's template

Shopify expects its own column names. Download Shopify's CSV template, open it beside your Squarespace export, and copy your columns across into it: title, description, price, SKU, quantity, images.

Tip: start with five or six products only. Import those, check they land correctly, then do the full file. Fixing your column mapping on six rows is far quicker than on six hundred. Questions? support@ocanova.ca.

Import into Shopify and check

In Shopify go to Products → Import and upload your file. Then check prices, quantities and images before moving on.

From Magento (Adobe Commerce)

Shopify publishes no migration guide for Magento and its app doesn't connect to it. Magento does export cleanly to CSV, though, so that's the route.

Export your catalogue from Magento

In the Admin sidebar go to System → Data Transfer → Export. Set Entity Type to Products and leave Export File Format as CSV.

The export runs in the background — Magento tells you when the file is ready, and you can keep working meanwhile.

Reshape it to Shopify's template

A Magento export is wide: the first row holds the name of every attribute in your catalogue, often dozens of columns. Shopify expects only a handful. Keep just title, description, price, SKU, quantity and images, then copy those into Shopify's CSV template.

This is the tedious step, and Magento is the worst case for it. Two things that help: do a trial run with five products before you tackle the whole catalogue, and know that configurable products (sizes, colours) become several rows in Shopify's format — one row per variant, all sharing the same Handle. Import into Shopify and check

In Shopify: Products → Import, upload the file, then check prices, quantities, images and above all variants — variants are what translates worst out of Magento.

Shopify's Store Migration app also accepts a CSV file from any platform, alongside the direct connections. If yours can export a CSV, you can use it.

Not sure whether your platform can export? Search its help centre for "CSV export" or "export products" — most can. You'd then reshape that file to Shopify's CSV template, the same way as the Squarespace route above.
