Tanzania - Peaberry, Single Origin

One of the most unique and unusual beans is the Tanzania peaberry. The connotation "peaberry" indicates that only one bean grows inside the coffee cherry instead of the usual two, allowing it to absorb all the nutrients it would normally share. This also gives it a round shape. Some connoisseurs swear that the peaberry mutation yields a better quality coffee and we think it is definitely worth trying. In general, 5 to 10% of all cherries are peaberries!

For some reason, Tanzanian coffee is almost always associated with peaberry coffee beans, even though these beans can grow in many regions of the world. With its proximity to Ethiopia and its shared border with Kenya, the Tanzanian people have a long history and cultural relationship with coffee. Peaberry coffee beans have been hand-picked from the lots during coffee processing and Tanzania has the infrastructure to sort them. This coffee is fantastic as a filter coffee, but also as a single-origin espresso. While enjoying this delicious cup, you will certainly appreciate the extra work that has gone into picking these very special beans!

Our single origin from Tanzania comes from a medium roast of 16 on the Roast Scale and 67 on the Agtron Gourmet Scale established by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).
