What is black elderflower?

In the past, elder was nicknamed "the country folk's pharmacy." How to use black elderflowers?

   The infusion of dried flowers is also said to act as a tonic, expectorant, and diuretic.
   It can also be used externally as a poultice to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. As well as in an ointment to soothe burns and scalds.
