PreFoundation also provides L-5-MTHF, the bioactive form of folate, which bypasses the often-impaired enzymatic step required for folic acid activation. Consequently, pregnant women taking a supplemental L-5-MTHF have been shown to have higher red blood cell folate levels than when taking a supplemental folic acid. Improved executive function has also been observed in children whose mothers supplemented with 5-MTHF during pregnancy.

Potassium iodide provides an essential source of iodine, which is often deficient in women, but is linked to children’s cognitive development. Vitamin K2, in the menaquinone-7 form, is known to have a longer half-life than other forms of vitamin K, and has been associated with greater osteocalcin carboxylation in children, which is essential for optimal bone health.
