The Le Roy Walnut Wood Watch

The Le Roy watch, by Mathieu Blanchard, is freely inspired by the works of one of the greatest watchmakers of the 17th century, Julien Le Roy. A scientist, master watchmaker to Louis XV, and fully dedicated to watches, Julien Le Roy remains one of the great French watchmakers. In the Age of Enlightenment, he managed to challenge English supremacy in timepieces: he achieved this through numerous improvements and inventions, notably the horizontal clock, which he helped popularize through Henry Sully's work, Règle artificielle du temps.

The durability of a product primarily depends on its materials. For Mathieu Blanchard Signature watches, we use materials that stand the test of time.

For the crystal, we use sapphire crystal: it is the most frequently used crystal in high-end watches today. Sapphire crystal is 10 times harder than mineral glass and 4 times harder than acrylic glass. It is virtually impossible to scratch except with diamond, which is even harder. This crystal is lab-created.

For watch cases and straps, we have made enormous efforts to produce using durable materials like natural wood from sustainable sources and matte-finished stainless steel. This finish provides visual durability, as wear and tear are much less apparent than with a polished finish.

Loving nature, it is often a source of calm, comfort, and frequently the starting point for our collections of jewelry  accessories. Our primary material is wood, which offers a significant environmental advantage over other comparable materials: low carbon emissions during the production process and biodegradable materials.

Our watches are handcrafted with great precision by a highly experienced team. Each watch is naturally unique and made with real wood such as walnut and oak (from Whisky barrels).
