All the Details You Need to Know
The Story Behind This Plant
English Ivy (Hedera helix) has a rich history, symbolizing eternity and faithfulness across many cultures. Native to Europe and Western Asia, it naturally climbs walls and trails across the ground, and the variegated forms add an extra layer of visual appeal with their patterned leaves.
How to Keep It Happy
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It tolerates lower light, but variegation is most vibrant in brighter conditions. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun.
- Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Water when the top inch feels dry, and ensure excellent drainage.
- Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity; misting or a pebble tray helps in dry indoor environments.
- Soil: Use a good quality, well-draining potting mix.
Popular Ivy Varieties
- Fatshedera lizei 'Pia Variegata' – Unique star-shaped leaves with striking variegation.
- Algerian Ivy 'Neon' – Large leaves in vibrant neon-green tones.
- Ivy 'Golden Ingot' – Golden-yellow marbled variegation on trailing stems.
